About Me

I call this blog The Wax In My Ear because each article consists of the verbal deluge that occurs after a thought spends awhile crusting over in my head: comparable to an aged ball of wax scraped out of an untended ear.

I’m a misfit. In high school, I was placed in both Advanced Placement and Verge of Retardation classes. I have since been a summer camp counselor, a swim instructor, the editor in chief of a newspaper, a local music scene show organizer, a student at an orthodox Yeshiva in Jerusalem where I was offered a full scholarship to train to become a rabbi (which I declined), a pizza delivery boy of no consequence, an IT consultant, and CIO of a small government contractor.

Recently, I reassumed the mantle of college student at Frostburg State University in Maryland after parting ways for a couple years with college following a tempestuous relationship with the University of Maryland at College Park.  I am pursuing a degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing and may pick up a minor in Computer Science.

I don’t care much for political correctness, broadcast television, black & white thinking, and illiteracy. I believe in asking difficult questions to challenge unfounded perceptions. Often I will state something controversial as though it is my opinion in order to solicit active debate and hopefully thought, mostly because I don’t care what other people think of my opinion so much as that they bother to inform theirs.

My favorite things are forests, unpolluted night skies, open roads, books, urban exploration, and computer technology.

I enjoy interacting with people about my writing, and I will respond to any and all constructive criticism and feedback. Don’t be shy. My email address is jrsherrod@gmail.com.
